The cargo net is a very worthwhile addition to the trunk of my 2010 Civic Si. It not only keeps grocery bags from sliding forward, but it is actually a v-shaped net that opens to allow it hold smaller items that would otherwise be able to slide under or around it
The instructions direct you to drill two holes two in the side of the trunk and four in the floor, but I only drilled two of the floor holes because I only wanted the net to be mounted vertically, as you see in all of the photos. If you choose to drill the two additional floor holes, they would be drilled further back in the trunk. The idea of four mounting points on the floor is to provide a way to install the net--flush against the bottom of the trunk--to prevent items placed underneath it from sliding around. Personally, I thought this was a very impractical way to use a cargo net and I couldn't envision myself ever using the net for that purpose, so I did not install the two additional mounting points. (Also, I didn't want two additional plastic clips sticking up in the back of my trunk, where they would likely get in the way of other stuff I tried putting in the trunk, and likely get chipped or broken.)
Installation is NOT a snap. Metric drill bits are specified. As I don't have a metric bit kit, I used the closest smaller English equivalent I could find, and then CAREFULLY reamed out the hole just a little bit. But the biggest installation surprise (especially given that this is sold as a user-installable accessory available at all Honda parts counters) is that virtually no mention is made of the fact that the tool required to install the rivet nuts necessary to attach the net clips to the side of the trunk, is a custom "riv nut" tool available ONLY to Honda dealers. LET ME EMPHASIZE THAT: YOU CAN NOT INSTALL THIS NET WITHOUT A RIV NUT TOOL, AVAILABLE ONLY TO HONDA SERVICE DEPARTMENTS! That said, there are places online where you can rent a riv nut tool for a relatively modest amount--definitely much less than the cost of dealer installation. If you have a friendly local Honda dealer, it's possible he might lend/rent it to you as well--though I really doubt it since they charge a pretty hefty fee for installing the net for you, so why would they want to help you do it yourself!? (I've also seen some online DIY websites which provide instructions for fabricating a sort-of home-rolled riv nut tool; maybe these are ok, I don't know, but I was reluctant to experiment with this sort of thing on my new car just to avoid a $20 rental fee.)
Anyway, once you get the holes drilled, and the two riv nuts installed, screwing in the four (or six, if you think you'll neet a flat net someday) net hooks and then attaching the net, is about as simple as it gets. The drilling/rivnut portion of the installation may sound intimidating, but if you've got halfway decent DIY skills, it is definitely well worth the hassle; if not, I guess you'll have to pay the dealer his $150 or whatever to install it for you. Either way, the net is a very good product!
